Here's a super simple poster to help students remember inverse operations when solving equations in algebra. There are 4 variations of the poster so that you can use the one that matches your curriculum's notation.
When I'm working with students and ask how we undo addition, they'll say subtraction. And when I ask how we undo multiplication, they know it's division. But when we get to, "How do we undo squaring a number?" I often get blank stares. So this poster is really a way to communicate squaring and square rooting as inverse functions to students.
After some feedback on Facebook, I added 4 additional posters with the operations reversed (thank you, Deb P!) and +/- to the square roots where applicable (thank you Jeffrey K!)
You can download the posters free here.

I love these posters you made! Maybe consider making an opposite poster for each as well. ex: add is sub make one that has sub opposite is addition. I have students who struggle to think that way and the visual would be good to display.
ReplyDeleteYou got it, Deb! I just replaced the file in my Google Drive with one that also has the operations swapped. Thank you for the suggestion!
