Digital Algebra

It's hard to believe we're all here, being forced into homeschooling algebra or developing algebra lessons that can be taught from home. Students are suddenly tasked with distance learning on Google Apps that may have never used before. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all and wondering how I ever took normal life for granted. But here we are! Homeschooling our kids math (or in my case "homeschooling" since mine is in K) or creating digital algebra lessons for remote teaching on platforms like Google Classroom or Zoom that we may have never used before.

It's been a whirlwind of digital algebra updates! Between teaching my little one fractions and keeping her busy, I was able to update all of my algebra task cards, partner scavenger hunts, and solve 'n check math tasks with digital versions for distance learning. All of the updates have been added into their existing printable resource files on tpt to create a library of digital math activities with both printable and digital versions in the same files

I have been updating my printable algebra resources to now also include links to digital versions, like this virtual algebra word wall. In this post, I want to link you to some of these new digital resources along with my free math cheat sheets and YouTube tutorial videos to make it easier for you to teach algebra remotely.

1: YouTube

I'd love it if you took a second to subscribe to my YouTube station. On it are quick algebra teaching videos that go along with the math cheat sheets I have here on my blog.

2: Math cheat sheets

These are the cheat sheets that go along with the videos above. They can be sent to students via email or printed for student notebooks. They are each 1-sheet and good references for students learning algebra and algebra 2. All of my math cheat sheets are linked here:

3: Desmos Activities

Adam from Desmos generously presented on Desmos Activities on my Facebook page recently and the replay is available to view on YouTube here.

All About Desmos Activities! YouTube replay

Adam let us experience Desmos Activities from a student perspective and showed us all the features of the teacher dashboard. He also taught us how to search for activities both inside Desmos and on Google and build and organize collections. It was an awesome PD!

4: Digital math templates:

I have made a couple Google graphing templates that can be sent to students to keep their graphing sharp.

It's hard to believe we're all here, being forced into homeschooling algebra or developing algebra lessons that can be taught from home. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all and wondering how I ever took normal life for granted. But here we are! Homeschooling our kids math (or in my case "homeschooling" since mine is in K) or creating digital algebra lessons for remote teaching on platforms like Google Classroom or Zoom that we may have never used before.

a: This algebra 1 Google template

Teacher: You can fill in either the table, the equation or drag the arrow on the right to make a graph. You can then send the template to students to complete the rest.

Parent: If you have a teen at home in algebra, they can practice with the template to keep their linear equations sharp.

b: This algebra 2 Google template

Teacher: You can add a function to the function box (bottom right) and send the template to students to practice creating tables, finding domain and range, etc. The graph (where it says "no data" now) will auto-generate from points entered in the table.

There is an infinity symbol in the top right of the sheet that can be copied and pasted for domain and range.

Parent: If you have an algebra 2 student at home, this Google form is a way for them to keep their graphing skills sharp, which is most of algebra 2. Making tables from equations is a skill that comes in handy in whatever math class students find themselves in.

5: How to send GOOGLE Forms and Slides to students

Not sure how to send Google activities to students? I wrote two posts to help with this. They have simple directions and screenshots to get you up and running sending Google Slides and Forms:

6: Distance learning algebra (print + digital combined)

self-checking partner scavenger hunt activities now will have Google Slides versions included
partner scavenger hunts GOOGLE update

◾ All of my partner scavenger hunt math activities now include both printable and digital Google Slides versions for distance learning.

Partner scavenger hunts are self-checking, even as printables. They can also be sent to individual students. The files are editable so you can choose which clock to send out via the digital link if you'd prefer students to work independently.

Solve 'n Check math tasks GOOGLE update

All of my Solve 'n Check math tasks have been updated with Google Forms for distance learning. Even in printed form (included in the same file), these tasks are self-checking.

(If you are not sure how to assign a Google Form to students, I wrote a step-by-step tutorial here).

I have a growing section of digital algebra task cards, like these for quadratic word problems.

◾ I updated all of my algebra task cards to include both print and Google Forms. All updates are free if you already have any of these activities. You just have to re-download.

Systems of Equations Word Problems - print and digital

◾ I have added digital updates to matching and sorting algebra activities. Here is the printable version of a solving equations mix-match activity:

and its digital version found in the same file:

I wrote a post about blended algebra learning that shows both the printable and digital versions of the updated algebra resources.

◾ All of my printable + digital algebra resources are included in this Algebra Activities Bundle. It also includes both a printable and a virtual algebra word wall. Each activity is available separately.

6: Digital Algebra Word Wall

I added a link to a digital algebra word wall into its printable file so that your students can continue to access their math vocabulary even if they are home.

(This word wall is included in the Algebra Activities Bundle.)

I will continue to update this post as I come across more digital algebra resources to help with distance learning.

7: Digital Escape Rooms

digital math escape rooms

To meet the needs of remote learning and classrooms with technology, I have been making digital math escape rooms that are engaging, challenging and not overwhelming for students working independently. I've gotten some great feedback on these already and will be adding all of the digital algebra escape rooms to the Algebra Activities Bundle.
